The Song of the Cosmos
Everyone and everything is endlessly complex and connected
Welcome to Tuesdays with Doctor G.
This is the final post in a six-part series entitled The Soulcial Revolution. The Revolution was my first attempt to define a post-faith spirituality of life—otherwise known as The Heretic’s Guide to the Universe among my former communities. :)
Fittingly, this newsletter is the book-end to a thirteen-part story tracing my journey from Jesus to the Buddha.
I am excited to finish out both series.

The underlying principle of the Soulcial Revolution is learning to integrate the complexity of our existence in five areas of life: self, spirituality, people, the planet, and the cosmos.
The Final Integration
So what does it mean to integrate the complexity of the cosmos? Sounds way out there, I know.
Here is one way to state this idea:
Can you hear it?
The song?
The one song.
“Everyone and everything is endlessly complex and connected.
An infinite universe. One planet. Many species.
Together.”
I guess that’s why they call it the uni-verse.

Here’s what astrophysics would say:
Our DNA, chemistry, and biology integrally connect us to every atom of the cosmos. We are organically bound to people, nature, earth, and the galaxies in one uninterrupted current of life and energy.
Uninterrupted.
Modern life does not reflect this universal harmony. Our cultural narratives produce internal and external strife on a mass scale—collective unworthiness and self-hatred, as well as anger, separation, and conflict towards others.
We Are Complex and Connected—And It Changes Everything
Whenever I internalize the song of the cosmos, everything about everything changes.
My heart fills with wonder at every turn now. Tracing the intricacy of my fingernail, the ingenuity of that crooked tree stretching toward the sun, the path of a grape from vineyard to tummy and back to the vine, the breathtaking uniqueness of each person, the haunting beauty of this planet. I could go on.
I am now mesmerized by every nook and cranny of life.
It’s way beyond, “stop and smell the roses.” It’s more like, “stop and talk to the roses. Then wait for them to respond.”
They are chanting in unison.
Love, patience and grace are now my default positions toward people. It is easy to simplify, group, and categorize people and then judge, hate or separate because of that.
Think of the endless battles.
Red vs. blue.
Black vs. white.
Saint vs. sinner.
However, each person has limitless histories, experiences, and traits. I cannot reduce them to one identity, voter preference, gender, sex or race. Thus, complexity and connection create a radically different atmosphere from which to relate to others. This does not mean excusing harmful behavior. It’s recognizing that every person is first and foremost a multi-faceted human being.
Finally, when I let this harmony flow through me, I feel an abiding calm—spiritual rest actually. Like my entire body, mind, and being have ceased their traditional struggle against others and the planet.
Peace is the word that comes to mind.
And it is the starting point for engaging the world anew.
What Is the Soulcial Revolution?
The Social Revolution is a new lens by which to see the world—a cosmovisión for my friends in Latin America. It replaces the widespread strife created by our habitual worldviews.
Here are the five integrations again.
Self - You are a noble and complex human being. Full stop. No further explanation needed. No divine restoration required.
Spirituality - The focus comes back to the radical message of the carpenter from Nazareth without fighting about doctrines.
People - People are noble and complex human beings. Our connection is greater than any category that would divide us or prohibit a dialogue.
Planet - You are an earth rider—along with the plants, animals, and ecosystems. And we have a responsibility to take care of each other.
Cosmos - Your DNA and chemistry organically bind you with every shred of the cosmos. And this changes everything.
Can you hear the song of the cosmos? Close your eyes for a few minutes and let its melody move through you. When you open them, nothing will be the same.
Til next time where I will be starting a new podcast series entitled The Gospel According to Lost.
Talk soon.
