Thanks Elizabeth.

I want to generate honest discussions about the Bible, the harm that a divine reading produces, and suggest an alternative approach that gets us to 80% of what everyone wants.

I think a story about a guy who stumbles and struggles his way through teaching that version of the Bible for twenty years is the perfect vehicle to deliver that message.

Tracking with you Doca G. Thanks for your brutal honesty in the journey. Eager to see where this is going for you. I really empathize with the lack of freedom and dogmatic legalism reflected by so many of our faith communities. And the lack of appreciation for the rugged debate, both historically and today. Curious about your conclusion that of the seven theology points of Christianity do not find their origins in Hebrew scripture before the exile. Curious as well how pre vs post exile scriptures would weigh in on that conclusion, if it did? I can't think of any of these doctrines, whether they are correct or not and by whose articulation of them, that wouldn't have some link or shadow in the Hebrew scriptures. Perhaps I presume too much freedom of thought among academics. Us non-academics have the luxury of not having to please the community for a paycheck. But that doesn't mean we don't follow the arguments to see where they go. Appreciate all you have and are doing to share your journey with us.

Yes, one of the weaknesses of Tuesdays with Doctor G. is peer review. But it's coming. The arguments stem all the way from yes, doctrines are there, even in shadow form and they evolved over time to, so what if God uses other cultures to write theology.

I'm writing because we need to have the discussions. Thanks for engaging.
